Lab Technician
Essential Job Functions
Perform hydraulic performance testing following established test procedures.
• Perform pump and system assembly, pump teardown and rebuild in accordance with the test plan determined by engineering on products up to 200hp and 600V.
• Working under the direction of the project engineer and the test lab supervisor, execute the test plan for each pump model being tested in accordance with the test request log and test procedures.
• Performs structural, environmental, thermal, acoustical, functional, mechanical, electrical and integrated systems to established industry standards
• Manage multiple priorities and keep project timelines on track while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Accurately and neatly record all test data. Perform data analysis (plotting and graphing) and record calculations and data analysis in permanent record files.
• Prepares complete and accurate test reports based on data generated by testing and data analysis.
• Knows and follows all necessary safety provisions including location and use of lab safety equipment and support daily efforts to monitor and enforce safety compliance.
• Keeps laboratory work areas neat and orderly.
Qualifications
Experience:
• Two-year Mechanical/Electrical or Industrial Technology degree (or currently in pursuit of) is highly desired.
• Experience programming, set-up, and operation of automated data acquisition software highly desired.
• Maintains laboratory instruments and test equipment routinely. Reports issues with test equipment, lab instruments or test methods to supervisor.
• Assists in agency audits and obtain technical certifications as needed from UL, CSA, Intertek, IEC etc.
Specific Skills:
• Good mechanical ability with knowledge of machine tolerances and fits, electrical controls and motors, pipe, valves, and fittings.
• Ability to operate overhead and stationary cranes with heavy loads safely.
• Gauge experience including but not limited to flowmeters, torquemeters, pressure gauges, micrometers and calipers.
• Some knowledge of hydraulics, materials, and electronics helpful.
• Ability to interact and communicate effectively in a cross functional environment with other test lab personnel, engineers, and shop personnel.
• Good organizational skills with ability to manage multiple priorities and keep project timelines on track while maintaining a high level of attention to detail.
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft office suite programs, particularly Excel and Word.
• Knowledge of CSA, UL, DOE, NRcan and IEC standards and procedures a plus
