Role/Job Summary:  

05 ~ 07 years of on-the-job experience in similar role of Power System Engineer of Marine & Offshore / shipbuilding / Ship design consultants.

  • Electrical Power System Engineer is expected to work with Lead Electrical Engineer for developing / updating of Electrical Power System Solutions for the Offshore Drilling Rigs.  
  • Electrical Power System Engineer position provides engineering and technical support for Client's Rig /fleet operations, modification projects and shipyard refurbishment projects.  
  • Engineering experience of Power systems on offshore drilling rigs and application knowledge in this job is required.  E
  • lectrical Production Engineers / Installation Engineers / E&I Supervisors not preferred.  

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:  

  • Prepare / Update Electrical Load List and Electrical Load Analysis for Offshore Drilling Rigs 
  • Prepare / Update Power Single line diagrams, Generator Control system drawings, Switchboard Internal wiring diagrams, terminal connection diagrams 
  • Perform Motor Feeder Sizing, Breaker Sizing, Cable Sizing, Cable Selection, Voltage Drop Calculations based on applications 
  • Preparing / Updating Power System Analysis study (Load Flow, Short Circuit, Motor Acceleration, Harmonic Study, Protection Co-ordination, Arc Flash Study etc.) and reports using ETAP / SKM Power Tools for various conversion and upgrades on Offshore Drilling Rigs 
  • Perform UPS and Battery sizing calculations 
  • Preparing / Updating control schematics for Starters, DG Synchronization & VFD panels 
  • Preparing Specifications for Power Management System (PMS), Flow Charts / Logics and advise improvements in PMS logics for increasing operational efficiency 
  • Prepare technical specifications of Electrical Distribution Panels, Control Panels, Junction Boxes, Starter Panels 
  • Getting approval and co-ordination with Classification Society 
  • Draft testing procedures / recommendations where required for the modifications & upgrades 
  • Provide Material specifications, Bill of Materials (BoM) required for the troubleshooting, upgrades, maintenance etc. 
  • Online discuss with rig operations team, understand operation issues, and provide technical solution.  

Minimum requirements for this position:  

  • Must have working knowledge and experience of Drilling Rig power systems and Switchboards 
  • Should have working knowledge and experience of standards: IEEE, IEC 61439, IEC 60947, IEC 60092, NEC, NEMA, UL UL508A etc 
  • Should have working knowledge and experience of class rules (ABS and DNVGL) for MOU/MODU and IMO MODU Code 
  • Must have hands on experience on ETAP / SKM Power Tools for various power system analysis 
  • Should have knowledge of IP ratings, Selection of Explosion proof Switchboards / Junction Boxes etc. as per Hazardous zone classification 
  • Should have ability to provide solutions on Generator Controls, Governors, AVRs, Synchronization and Power Management System solutions 
  • Should have ability to provide solution on power plant protection system i.e. relay settings for HV or LV application, motor feeders, ability to change logic in relays and change relay protection settings  
  • Should have knowledge of VFD / Soft starter selection, configuration, parametrization, and commissioning 
  • Self-motivated and ability to work with little supervision 
  • Proficient analytical and quantitative skills
