Manufacturing Prototype Engineer
Job Description & Skill Requirement:
Primary responsibilities in descending order for this position include:
• Designing, developing, and building assembly and fabrication jigs, fixtures and processes.
• Working with Product Engineering to provide prototypes and samples to customers as part of the CPQR process.
• Direct ownership of the prototype work area, including safety, 5s, and job flow management/reporting.
• Analyzing the existing operations and initiating process improvements using time studies, line balancing, and other tools
• Developing assembly equipment and production cells including process maps, value stream mapping, and work instruction development
• Training operators on new processes and procedures
• Participating in New Product Development process to ensure that product designs incorporate Design for Manufacturing principles
• Performing cost analysis to support both New Product Development and existing equipment needs
• Maintaining system integrity for manufacturing product information
• Creating routings to manage material flow through the manufacturing process
• Creating/maintaining plant floor and manufacturing area layout drawings
• Providing direction to maintenance team members as well as interns and technicians where required
Experience
• 1 – 3 years fabrication, manufacturing or design engineering experience is required
• Confidence and experience around fabrication equipment is required.
• 1-3 years of CAD/CAM experience is required.
• Experience with design and implementation of PLC controlled assembly and inspection equipment/fixtures is desired.
Skill Requirements (Technical, Communication, Interpersonal, etc.)
• Metal working, welding, and mechanical assembly skills are required.
• Communicating effectively with management, teams, engineers, and the shop floor
• CAD/CAM software proficiency is required. (Solidworks, GibbsCam, Siemens NX is Preferred)
• Excelling in problem solving, innovation, team participation, and self-motivation.
• Managing process improvement activities on multiple and concurrent projects, demonstrating a sense of urgency
• Working with teams to achieve Quality, Cost and Timing targets
• Six Sigma Green Belt certified preferred
• Experience PLC Troubleshooting and minor modification preferred
